I live in Jersey City, an area going through a massive period of urban renewal. This is common in areas close to major cities. New "civilizations" built upon the old. As I walked the streets past construction sites, reclamation yards, condemned buildings and decaying landscapes, I started to collect discarded plastic bottles, cans and containers. Some were crushed, or in pieces, or encrusted in dirt. These pieces of trash began to take on another meaning. Some were uniquely beautiful while others became strangely abstracted. They are "vessels" that will no doubt be unearthed in some future time as archaeological finds from our time.
